Man: Who was on the phone? Woman: some scammer threatening to arrest me if I didn't send $5,000 this very minute. Man: What did you do? Woman: I threatened to have you come to the phone, and he hung up. I guess your reputation precedes you.

Don’t threaten, just hand it to me. Last time, I made them pay me $500 just to get me to stop.

Some girl, a college student, sent $6900 in gift cards to the “IRS”. They called and threatened her with a lawsuit. Not only did she waste $6900, her whole tuition is a total waste of money. Why the heck would the IRS want gift cards?! I get the calls myself, not being college trained, I ignore them.

I use Caller I. D., if I can’t I.D. Number I don’t answer it! Call Blocker follows soon after.

My favorite pickup, upon seeing an unknown number on my caller ID, is to be a hyper-excited DJ on “ROCK 95, caller number FIVE, you’re on the air and what’s YOUR GUESS on today’s Secret Singer??” Throws ‘em for a loop, protesting that they didn’t mean to call this number and I rave on to the ‘audience’ that “this, folks is the crap we get every day here at the station” and by the time I’m done, they’ve hung up, never to be heard from again. Thus the fun an old man can have here at “Command Central”…

My daughter lets her very chatty 5-year-old son answer those calls. I don’t know if it makes the caller’s day, but it makes the boy’s!
