forms of speech a guide to the various types of political speech, with proper responses. stem-winder. a particularly rousing oration. stand up & cheer. man: yeah! tub-thumper. the same only more so. wave a sign. man: yeah! win thumb-sucker. a speech of deptch & thoughtfulness, or lots of statistics. remain seated. (see also nose-picker.) teeth-grinder. a speech that stirs resentment, esp. toward the other party's crummy candidate. man: ngh ooooh ngh ooh, i oughta- knuckle-dragger. a more proactive form of teeth grinder. appeals to your cro-magnon side. ngaaaaaaargh stool-softener. not a speech you need linger for. find the exit and use it.

Learn to listen to them in a detached way so that you can analyze them without getting exasperated over them.

By and large I studiously avoid listening to political speech. This does wonders for my disposition….
