In the book The Art of Richard Thompson, there is a section devoted to caricatures by Thompson. One of the best of these is of Beethoven. He was obviously important to Mr. Thompson.

I have one of those ugly Beethoven busts. When they were younger, one of our daughters asked, “Daddy, why is he so mad?”, “That’s Beethoven, he’s always mad.” “Why?” “Later.”
