Ripley's Believe It or Not! Duke Paoa Kahanamouku, (1890-1968) of Hawaii, an Olympic swimming champ at age 22, qualified for the US Olympic Water-Polo team at age 42, and at 57 was still competing in 1 1/4-mile races! Composer Gilberto Gartis Mendes wrote a piece of music that required a floor polisher, a dust catcher and a television set as instruments! The ancient Roman Emperor Caligula once decreed an official year of state mourning and forbade anyone in the empire from dining with their families, laughing or taking a bath!
