Duke Paoa Kahanamouku, (1890-1968) of Hawaii, an Olympic swimming champ at age 22, qualified for the US Olympic Water-Polo team at age 42, and at 57 was still competing in 1 1/4-mile races! Composer Gilberto Gartis Mendes wrote a piece of music that required a floor polisher, a dust catcher and a television set as instruments!
