Australia's redback spiders create webs with sticky, vertical strands connecting to the ground to catch walking prey. If a vertical strand is disturbed, it comes loose from the ground and springs up like a bungee cord! Canadian Alexis St. Martin survived a shotgun blast to the chest in 1822. The wound healed but left a hole exposing his stmoach, which allowed his doctor to perform hundreds of experiments concerning human digestion!
