Hawaii is the only state that does not permit the sport of falconry. In 1906, curators at the Bronx zoo briefly exhibited a Congolese pygmy named Ota Benga. United States Presidents are allowed to borrow works of art from various Smithsonian museums to decorate the White House.

Hawaii does not want to tolerate invasive species or something? (How briefly of an exhibit was Ota Benga those 110 years ago?)

The only falcon we have here in Hawaii is the Hawaiian Hawk, the ’io. It is a protected species.

“Borrow”…or “steal?”

I suspect the falconry thing has to do with not wanting to put any of the rare bird species at risk.

I wonder if the President of France gets to borrow paintings from the Louvre?

When Bill left the White House he and wifey needed some of those paintings to decorate their NY apartment. Wonder if she will bring them back when she moves in or just borrow some more. I remember the reports that they had to completely restock Air Force One after Bill left.
