The lava does glow from the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano if you see it at night, but in sunlight it appears black because the light emitted by it is very low due to its chemical composition which causes it to have a lower molten temperature.

I want to know who keeps coming up with these names for groups of animals. My dictionary’s definition of grumble doesn’t say anything about pugs.

Sad ending to that episode.
I have always disliked that ending. There is no way he should have just given up. Find an Optometrist or Optician shop and try lenses until you get some that at least help. If required, teach yourself to grind the ones you need. Sure, it might take some time, but as was said in the episode, he’s got “all the time in the world”. Never give up!
