Who would like to see the Alcatraz library when not as an inmate?

For those who are curious, the most effective type of music was found to be 80s pop, but there seemed to be a pretty strong effect based on individual preference, so if you like techno and find that it calms you down, don’t worry too much about unknowingly shooting up your blood pressure.

Did the Birdman of Alcatraz read books about ornithology?

Alcatraz Island is now run by the National Parks Service, with transportation by commercial ferry boats. Yes, you too can do time at Alcatraz, but only a three hour tour (a three hour tour). Definitely do the audio tour part. Google search terms “tour Alcatraz prison San Francisco” for details. I went quite a few years ago, and I ’d go again if I was out that way.

A couple with three children waited in line at San Francisco’s Pier 41 to purchase tickets for a boat trip to Alcatraz.

Others watched with varying degrees of sympathy and irritation as the young children fidgeted, whined, and punched one another. The frazzled parents reprimanded them to no avail.

Finally they reached the ticket window. “Five tickets, please,” the father said. “Two round trip, three one way.”

    Oooh! Another topic.

What does a techno DJ say, when he is out of pills?

“Somebody turn off this awful music please!”

Last topic. I found a much better joke than this, but it didn’t fit in with the kindlier, gentler RBION some people favor.

A husband is late coming home one night and isn’t answering his cell phone.

His wife calls her mother, incredibly upset. “I’m afraid he’s having an affair,” she tells her mother.

“Why do you always think the worst?” her mother asks. “Maybe he just got in a car crash or something.”

    For now.

Not a very impressive reading feat. When i was young and not working all the time I’d read 8-10 books per week. “The Lord of the Rings” including appendices would require about 2 days of reading time, to give an approximation of the speed I read.

Reading was one of the few things Alcatraz inmates were ALLOWED to do,so that isn’t much of a surprise.

Toured the island decades ago—I noticed a menu for a full Thanksgiving dinner hung in the dining hall.Since mealtime was one of the few pleasures there, they made sure that the food was good.

Robert Stroud was a predatory homosexual who was kept in solitary because he was a danger to the other inmates(something they left out of the 1962 movie).

One advantage is that Stroud was so far away from the action that he basically slept through the 1946 riot.

I wonder how many books the average inmate reads in today’s prisons.

To reduce blood pressure, I never found anything better than Ambient Music by Brian Eno

I stayed overnight in Alcatraz! It was about eighteen years ago, well into the tourism era for Alcatraz. My young son and I were there for a special event, a celebration of the takeover of Alcatraz by Native Americans, way back in the day. I’m not Native American, was invited by my friend Fortunate Eagle. There were dances, chants, rituals. Then my son and I slept on sleeping bags in a cell that was said to be haunted, due to a murder, a stabbing that had happened there in the prison days. It was cold and clammy and echoey and eerie but we were not disturbed by the resident ghost.

Wasn’t the average number of books read per year at Alcatraz around 87.5?

Disco and Rap music raise my blood pressure. So I would say they’re the least effective.
