Rose: Yes, Fanny. I think Pasquale has Jimbo's eyes!
Fanny: Whom do you think Clem favors me or Doolittle?
Rose: That's a toughie... what do you think, doo?
I was utterly stunned the first time I looked through these archives and discovered Doolittle. (What an apt name!) By the time my newspaper started carrying this strip, and I started collecting the books, he was long gone, and flashes of Fanny in childhood indicated that she was the one Clem got his looks AND attitude from. I always wondered if Fanny was widowed, divorced, or if her husband simply held down 3 full-time jobs in order to keep Clem in toys.
