Curiously enough, I do remember days like that decades ago. However, looking at the deepening layer of leaves outside my window today, just kicking them doesn’t seem enough some how.
Rose reminds me of a ‘Dick and Jane’ first grade reader story. They had fun playing in the leaves, also.
This works until you find the large rock that is lying in the middle of the leaf pile.
Even though my girls are now both teenagers – and I’m definitely WELL past that – all 3 of us still enjoy kicking leaves.
Sometimes being a kid just takes over!!
That’s my wife.
I love scuffling through the leaves in autumn.
The prisoners of infinite choice
Have built their house
In a field below the wood
And are at peace.
It is autumn, and dead leaves
On their way to the river
Scratch like birds at the windows
Or tick on the road.
Somewhere there is an afterlife of dead leaves,
A stadium filled with infinite sighing.
Somewhere in the heaven
Of lost futures
The lives we might have lived
Have found their own fulfillment.
There is nothing thrilling more than being a kid. See life through a child’s perspective and everything is bright. Way to go Don!
