She doesn’t quite have that right. It’s from a comic strip by Alison Bechdel, where a character lists her criteria for being willing to see a movie (i.e., as an indication that it is NOT completely gender-biased crap).
She says she only wants to see movies that:A) Include at least two women,B) who talk to each other,C) about something besides a man.(It’s a long-ago comic so the reference is out of date, but the character notes the only movie she’d been able to sit through of late was “Alien” where “the two women talk about the monster.”)
After I read that, I started paying attention, and was appalled at how few movies passed that test.I do think things are much better than in the mid-80s when Bechdel’s comic was written, in terms of acknowledging that the female half of humanity exists and that women are in fact complex FULL-humans. Still room for improvement though.
