That’s why actors were outcasts back in the day. Kings and bishops didn’t want the peasants thinking that anyone could say they were powerful and important.
Seems very pertinent to today. Replace the two of clubs with any number of topics (global warming, gun control, “the wall”, Soviet collusion, abortion, child abuse by priests, etc, etc), and the threats and attempts at control are the same.
