That’s why the author of the Pledge of Allegiance, Francis Bellamy, made no reference to a deity. When Eisenhower had “under God” added during the Cold War, Bellamy’s daughter was somewhat vocal in her protest. I’ve known some “patriots” to become quite irate when I prove this to them.

What many people, including judges, juries, lawyers and congressional subcommittees, don’t understand is that invoking the Fifth Amendment in refusing to testify is NOT a tacit admission of guilt. It is merely a protection afforded us under the Constitution.
