    Worms don’t go outside to play on rainly days, they go outside to keeps from drowning (and to feed the birds).

    Worms can survive submerged in water for days. They come out because it’s easier and faster moving across the land than through it.

    I figured those worms were night crawlers because of rain bringing them to the surface of the ground. Fishermen might water their lawns in order to bring night crawlers to the surface so that they can catch them for bait.
