They just said on the news that fewer kids are reading just for fun. Imagine that. Let’s see video game or read a book, watch a movie or read a book, You Tube or read a book, etc., etc., etc.. J. Short – exactly!
I lived in a strongly rural area as a child and loved the fact that the county library’s bookmobile arrived weekly at a shopping center about a mile from our home. I would ride my bike there each week and select as many books as I was allowed to check out. My parents were avid readers and when I turned three my mother said it was time for me to learn. Not only did the early reading provide me with a considerable advantage over my peers when I began first grade, but I also still believe her instruction to be my favorite of the gifts with which my mother blessed me.
