    A haiku is supposed to have 17 syllables, no more, no less.That’s just how it is. Don’t ask me why.

    Japanese Haikuhas seventeen sounds or ‘on’They’re not syllablesThey’re even shorter than syllables so 12 syllables approximates 17 on. So syllables are the best probably only way for us to compose them. That said, I composed my favorite haiku a couple of years ago while running through a cottonwood tree rich area during a major release of seeds.Cottonwood seeds fallSnowflakes you catch on your tongueAck Ack Patooey
