    That is all in how you define ‘Deer’. .Gen Turgidson’s gung-ho attitude, cigar-chomping and ability to talk about “acceptable casualties” were inspired by Gen. Curtis LeMay, head of the Strategic Air Command during the 1950s. .When I was in Strategic Air Command in the early 1960’s there was a story about Gen LeMay: he was smoking one of his famous cigars while standing next to one of his bombers. An Air Policeman came over to tell him, “Sir, no smoking on the flightline. The plane may blowup.” .Gen LeMay just stared at him and said, “IT WOULDN’T DARE!”
