The line originated with a (now iconic) Peter Steiner cartoon in the New Yorker, way back in July of 1993. It’s pretty much what you’d expect, from the caption. One dog is sitting at a computer, and says to another (on the floor):
“On the internet, nobody knows you’re a dog.”
