I’d go so far as to say they’re are no rules in baseball.

On the other hand, soccer players writhe on the ground in seeming death throes if someone brushes by them

The late Don Baylor: When he got hit by a pitch, which was often because he crowded the plate, they checked the ball for damage. He at least used to hold the record for most times HBP in a career.

Anyone remember the shoe polish at bat from the 1969 World Series?

Even when you get hit “in the thigh”? (Broadcasters’ term of art for reproductive details.)

My wife has become an avid American MLB baseball fan, although she speaks very little English and never saw a baseball game until she met me. Fortunately, the games we get televised here have Spanish-language broadcasters – who are oftentimes better than many of their gringo counterparts in doing play-by-play and color. She doesn’t know all the intricacies of the arcane rules of baseball, but I think that’s what makes it more enjoyable for her. It really is an easy game to follow.

Oh, and heresy of heresies, she doesn’t have a favorite team! She decides before the game which team she’ll root for, based on what I have no clue, but she really gets into it.

Mets’ Kevin Pillar took a 94 mph pitch square in the nose, Monday night; and the pitcher was so shook up that he also went to the locker room. It took some time to clean up the blood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjjZFj5dhLk
