Whose writing this??? Tarzan would NEVER take the life of Tantor! They are inseparable companions. I was waiting for Tarzan to turn on the natives to save the pachyderms. This is NOT the true Tarzan of Burroughs fame. I’m clearing this from my favorites. If you want to know the REAL story, read Edgar Rice Burroughs original books!
This is a sacrilegious comic strip. Tarzan would never do that to a Tantor. Yes he kills a lot of cats but this is a traitor Tarzan. I thought we read some pre-1950 strips on here that showed the Tarzan we were used to? How could he revert to this and still be accepted by the public even in the 1950’s?
This is from the days when big game hunters were glamorized in the media, and some could even earn a good living at it. Clyde Beatty and others became famous. Now we are seeing the end of that mindset, with the closing of the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Baily Circus. The hunters and poachers did their work too well, and now big game is rare and endangered. But we are growing up a little as the alpha species on Earth, and don’t have to kill animals for survival or profit now. Tarzan had weeks in the wilderness when he could have made new weapons, now now he has earned them by mugging an elephant instead of a native warrior.

I’m removing this comic from my list as well. Who on Earth would find this storyline entertaining?

I think Tantor is the name for all elephants not just Tarzan’s friend. That said this storyline is very controversial in this day and age.

Aren’t Elephants an endangered species?

Not only are Tarzan’s actions bogus, the strip writer forgets that neither lions or elephants live in jungles.
