Also if it is just lashed into place there is the chance the log will simply slide back in its lashings and cause no or only minimal damage to the pirate.

How are they going to reverse the ship in order to disengage the point? If the pirate ship sinks, it will take the bow of Toll’s ship down with it.

He should have just armed the ship with a ballista so they could fire a giant flaming arrow through the hull of the pirate ship
