Highlights so far. Mr. & Mrs. Mallard have two fuzz balls that they were showing off. And I swear we get a Hummer at the feeder about every minute. The top of the 20 + foot Saguaro Cactus in the back corner of my yard has 10 flowers on the very top. ( you see how bored I am under house arrest)
Happy to finally see yesterday’s strip. And Chesney, that’s a good question for Annie "Why are you here?’ – at least to an ungrateful fellow like you. You owe an awful lot to Annie for all she does for you!
My favorite of the TV show is,of course, the evening Mews. That’s how I watch TV in the evening. I have anywhere from 1 to 5 cats on me nearly every minute that I’m watching TV.
I took a quick run out to my garden to plant some tomato plants. I had to hurry because a storm was brewing. I just got them all in the ground and gave them a drink of water and I put tomato cages around all but 2 or 3 of them when the rain came and I dashed to my car. Then the rain started pouring down hard. There was a lot of traffic heading west (I was going east). Suddenly, a doe ran in front of me. I wish I had my dash cam on, but just this one time, I didn’t. She ran right in front of all those cars that were coming towards me and right in front of me and I wasn’t prepared to see that in the early afternoon (I think it was just before 2:30) and as hard as the rain was falling, I doubt I’d have seen her even if I had been watching for deer. She got across the road safely. She was lucky this time.
Another wildlife encounter – I discovered a couple bird nests in the rafters in my garage a few days ago. I didn’t see any birds in them, so I didn’t know if they were occupied or if they were old nests from last year. Well, yesterday, I saw 3 (or possibly 4) yellow beaks sticking out of the top of one of the nests. I believe they’re robins, because there was a robin hanging nearby, cheeping, holding something in his or her beak. I have to guess that’s one of the parent birds. I tried to take a video of the baby birds with my camera, but the stupid camera was acting up and the video I got was lousy, so I’ll try again another day.
To Neal Janzen from yesterday’s comments – I’m so sorry to hear about the little kitten’s death. It just isn’t fair when kittens die.
Back in 1980, I had 2 kittens die when they were only 6 days old ( I have cat records of births & deaths going back to the 1970’s). We had a cat named Wooly. She was a long-haired black & white cat. While she was pregnant, we discovered she had some kind of lump on her body. We took her to the vet and he pulled a scab off a wound she had there and the puss came pouring out…it was icky! Soon after that, Wooly gave birth to 2 kittens. But somehow, the kittens didn’t look quite right. I couldn’t really explain it, but they seemed like their heads were too big or something. Something just wasn’t right. The kittens were born on May 15, 1980. On the 21st, one of the kittens died. I remember holding the dead kitten and crying that it had died. I think it was a couple hours later (I’m kind of fuzzy on the details. because after all, it was 40 years ago), Wooly brought me her other kitten while I was on my bed. I could see it was dying too and I held the kitten and cried while it died in my hands with Wooly looking on. The vet said the infection she got from that wound was probably what caused her kittens to be born with whatever birth defect they had that led to their deaths. I never even got a picture of those kittens. And I can’t believe that was 40 years ago.
Yesterday’s strip as well worth waiting for. Our little Annie has the patience of a saint. Yesterday I found of small whiptail lizard on the kitchen floor. I put him outside and 2 big ones of a different species came running at him as if he were food, so I grabbed him and he is now in a small tank until I figure out where he can be safely released. I don’t want to see him get eaten!
@Neil JansenI’m so sorry to hear that the baby didn’t make it. Max, Tosh, Jennifur,Tilley, Freckles, Tiger and Wendy were there to greet her when she crossed the bridge.Their little lives are so fragile and she knew love at the end. Sometimes that is all you can do.
The print I ordered just arrived and Brad wanted to know what I was laughing at. I told him wouldn’t get it.Now I need to buy a frame. I swear, every time I see “Allo” and the reactions of those two, I still laugh.
Those all sound like good shows, especially the Evening Mews. On another note, saw a robin, a sparrow, a rabbit, a hummingbird, and a dragonfly while out walking today. I also saw a Stellar’s jay outside.

Thanks, Graham, for the reprint of yesterdays’ strip. At first I wondered why there were two then I saw a post about it.
