At about the age of 80, my sister’s father-in-law (who I’d known for a long time as well by then; we grew up just down the road from him) started telling me, “It’s hell getting old.” He would say this every time I saw him, even after he started stroking out, for as long as he was able to talk. He made it to 90 before he had the last one; so I guess he knew what he was talking about.
