And if your local grocery store doesn’t have the food you want, have the long distance shipment order delivered by train. Because you can’t get a delivery done more by a local-motive than that.
I don’t really try to stay local, per se but I at least try to stay on this continent. I don’t see the sense in buying blueberries from Peru for instance.
Locally sourced food is cheaper, but for folks in town they need to drive to the farmers market or road side stand. In the local market they find it more expensive. Factor in your mileage, gas, time. I don’t think you safe a thing.
Back in the day when I grew up, everyone had vegetable gardens. We raised our own and I still do. Ask younger ones now if they have a garden and they think flowers not food. People don’t even get dirty anymore. I mean “outside” not inside. Today fresh food means takeout. Good grief.
our local supermarket has a section devoted to local products, which are extremely expensive… (i hasten to add that pricing in japan is often a mystery)
we always marvel at the high prices that supermarkets in japan charge for zucchini. very small zucchini. i find it amazing that they’re able to grow zucchini that small – ours seem to double in size by the minute…
I’m 57, grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. We never had a vegetable garden. Never. We bought all our vegetables at the grocery store. I think it’s great to have a vegetable garden. The goal is to eat vegetables, so wherever you get them from is ok.

Local grown produce is always higher than store prices. Local growers say they are growing organic. How do I know?

Kroger says their produce is locally sourced. I don’t see how with the volume they use.

Let’s face it, fresh ingredients aren’t going to do much to improve Gladys cooking.

Does the freezer compartment of the fridge count as “locally” sourced?
Gordo4ever about 3 years ago
Methinks Gladys misunderstands the concept of locally sourced… ;)
