Remember back in the 1970s when Lil’ Pepe’s bellybutton was censored?

Little known fact:Due to the Child Labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, little Pepe is actually played by twins Jorge and Ruiz Gonzalez.

The child wranglers separately trained identical twins with different tricks. Jorge can sit quietly, look attentive, and deflate pompous asses with dry sardonic wit. Ruiz is a mercurial hyperactive screaming destructive hellion…. or is it the other way around?

Pepe/Eugene’s belly button was caught up in the whole “Belly Button Controvery” started with public complaints about Barbara Eden’s exposed navel in I Dream of Jeannie.

Which was always a mistaken association, since Scully himself wrote several of the screenplays for the competing show Bewitched. Contrary to producers’ claims at the time, Elizabeth Montgomery’s navel was not kept hidden due to a heightened moral sense so much as that she had an unsightly outie.
