what am i missing—i don’t get it

If a graffiti spraying dog is comedy I guess so are candles. Tell us Tom what is the concept?

When I drew this I laughed and laughed. Now I don’t really remember why. I guess the joke is that he’s surprised to find candles in a gift shop, when obviously you shouldn’t be surprised to find candles in a gift shop. Anyway, Motif is a wonderful store, if you are ever in Altadena, Ca. check it out!

People, even I’m not “favorite-ing” this one.

Tom, I get what you mean. Here in my hometown, there used to be a gift shop that must have been similar to Motif - it was called PotPourri. They used to sell a calendar that featured odd holidays like Lumpy Rug Day and Emma Nutt Day.

It appears that the humor here is extremely local and lost on people who are unfamiliar with Motif. Now that I know, I can relate, but, unfortunately, the joke was not intrinsic.

I do, however, greatly appreciate a cartoonist who responds to his audience like you.
