My uncle was a long time fireman. He hated the one story firehouses, and actually asked for a transfer back to an old-style one when he was assigned to a new one. My father-in-law had been a volunteer fireman in his younger days. He was thrown out of Engine House #5 restaurant in Columbus after taking and winning a bet that he could climb, rather than slide down the pole that was left when it was remodeled into the restaurant!
