French fries are from Belgium, fried potatoes were mentioned in 1781. Pizza comes from Naples in Italy and was brought into the USA by italian immigrants. Chop suey, as it is now, is indeed US food, but it is based on a chinese dish called tsap seui (杂碎, “miscellaneous leftovers”). As for German Chocolate Cake. The inventor was Mr Sam German, so it should be “German’s Chocolate Cake”.

German Chocolate cake never pretended to be German. It’s called that because the recipie for a coconut almond chocolate cake appeared on the back of a German’s Bakers chocolate package in the 1950s. And German was the name of the family who started the company.
