Three cheers! Is it true that in the UK, paid political advertising is against the law?

Personally I’d like to vote by bean counting–just drop the beans you’re given into an assortment of jars and then they’re weighed. Whoever gets the biggest number of beans, that’s it. Or we can use pennies, so they continue to have a purpose besides teaching kids to count. Either way, I am all for the silence too!

Not sure about the specifics on that one, but I do know they get equal time for a “party political broadcast” at allocated times on the BBC.

For those who are overcome by political ads, I put an entry on my blog a while back with embedded video from WCCO-TV in Minneapolis. Apparently, they decided to split political ads up with “ad breaks,” which are thirty second shots of things like cats and a baby playing with spaghetti. Brings a little sanity to it all.

I don’t think I’d mind the ads if they were a little more creative, either.
