Oh, yes, the Windows interface that bears no relationship to Apple’s “Aqua” and came out after OS X. Nope, no relation at all. Uh-uh.

By the way, everyone, how does the strip look today? I’m askling for a reason, but don’t want to say why quite yet.

Hi Pab, It looks great! Love the various modes of presentation in panel 4, including a super blurry prince and cookie-cutteresque QV. Prince Albert’s morning jacket looks a little streaky across the chest throughout, as if it hadn’t quite finished loading, a nice contrast to the Queen’s perfectly detailed furbelows.

Aero? Aqua? I assume those are the names for yet more unnecessary (for most of us) graphic interfaces whose principal raison d’etre is to gobble up memory and lead us thus to believe that a brand new, more powerful computer, is, yet again, a more vital investment than a new winter wardrobe. I just LOVE unbridled capitalism.

mivins: Good to know. Today is the first strip I’ve done at a higher resolution (with print needs in mind) and have successfully shrunken down to screen resolution. My previous attempts did not scale well, but I think I’ve mastered it. Tomorrow’s seems to look good, too, using the same process, so I think I’ll stick with it.

This way, the strip will look better in the paperback collections (starting with book 4 next year) and if I do manage to secure a print deal down the road, will look better on the printed page.

And, yes, that’s what inspired the “Service Pack 2” storyline. In case it looked like bleeep, I could write it off as being due to the service pack, and end the week with them trying to uninstall it.

I like the effects in the last panel. I once used photoshop to add the effect you used on the queen to a photo of a lighthouse.

I’ve never gone along with the “new looks” every time Windows changes - I prefer some continuity, so I stick with the “Windows Classic” look. I was happy with XP for a long time, with no crashes, no virus problems, no compatibility problems, then when my computer died (it expired 5 minutes after my favorite cat) I was forced to buy a new unit with Vista and I hate it. Some of my favorite software won’t run, some of it crashes and the “security” stuff drives me nuts. I’m giving serious thought to Linux.
