In the early 70’s and the 60’s, alcohol made you suave, charming and witty. James Bond. (not so much) but Dean Martin (who wasn’t a drinker onstage or IRL). Or funny, Foster Brooks. Or socially jolly, Canada had the Pig and Whistle and Irish Rovers shows, think the Brits had pub variety shows, no idea if there was anything the like in the US.
