Based on the date, is that the Beavertail Lighthouse?

Rose is unlikely to believe in the lighthouse shadow = bad luck issue.

This is the lighthouse at Beavertail on Conanicut Island. Will Henry (not his real name) works in Jamestown on the same island. I used to climb those cliffs when I was younger. Very cool place.

I thought the oldest lighthouse still up in the US was built in 1764 in New Jersey

I went back to August 2nd and 3rd to see what exactly was the problem. It’s bad luck to “stand” and to “step” in the shadow of the lighthouse. Why don’t they hop across?

As it turns out, today is “National Lighthouse Day,” as legislated at the behest of the US Lighthouse Society:https://uslhs.org/fun/lighthouse-festivals-events/national-lighthouse-day

As for this one, Beavertail Light at Jamestown, RI was indeed built in 1749 but replaced several times, and was not damaged during the American Revolution, unlike the older Boston Light which was blown up by the British. The only one that actually survived the British attacks was Sandy Hook Light in New Jersey, built 1764; other pre-Revolution light stations survived but were replaced (Beavertail’s current tower dates to 1856).

As a big history buff myself, that IS very interesting to me. Hadn’t thought that lighthouse was quite that old.

They’d already be in the shadow of the cliff, so how would they tell when the shadow of the lighthouse passes over the shadow of the cliff???
