Most science fiction conventions have a line of programming about books and writing, and people often cosplay characters that haven’t migrated to movies or TV. Some authors are portrayed, too.
I’ve never seen this at a mystery con, but I’ve only been to a few that were more about writing than fans.
The only way a literary author or a dead author would be portrayed at a book festival would be in a one-man or one-woman show about that author. (Literary fans tend to be boring that way.)
