In my case, my stepfather adopted me at age 5, shortly after marrying mom. Bio-dad died when I was about 3, and I have no memory of him. From what I gather, at that point he wasn’t much more than a memory for mom.

From the time I was about 5, I was frequently told how much I looked like my dad. How could they have known he was my adoptive father?
