stripseeker…we and our greater union relationship need to go slightly to the left because of those horse-apples righties plopped out there that we’d have to go thru…if you get too close to the horse’s behind you might get kicked or a lap full of more horse apples. Don’t follow the richies on horseback, pull them down off their high horses, they’re helpless then.
Couldn’t agree more, my friend.Have been a union member most of my years. As the saying goes: “Be thankful for unions. They’re the ones who gave us the 5 day work week”(And, LIVING WAGES).Unions work for the betterment of ALL, unlike those on the high horses.Personally remember the days (fondly), when the Teamsters Union had the power to shut down the entire country by representing most truckers.Union membership is now about 10% (10!) for all workers in all jobs, nationwide.reeps have sown seeds of public dislike for unions, (divide and conquer) and those on the high horses have ridden roughshod over the public, leaving only road apples in their wake!
Thanks so much for your (truly) beautiful post.Just when we need such a fair and balanced outlook on things. You’re absolutely right that the union bosses, as with any in power almost anywhere, lost sight of their common, shared humanity with the restof the common folk and where they came from.Am always so shocked to see how many who have risen to power in every area came from rather humble roots. Those who already had great wealth before rising to power, were already used to regarding workers as nothing but means to their own ends and enrichment. We have to thank the Teamsters Union boss in 1985 (believe it was Fitzsimmons) for bringing the 2 tier wage plan to the Teamsters for the very 1st time. This was the opening for pitting worker against worker, and will never forgive him for this. It opened the door to union destruction all over the place. The Teamsters is now only a shadow of its former self under Jimmy Hoffa (Sr.), and union-busting by states now continues in state and local government against public sector workers, thus resulting in the totally ragged remnants of the union movement, and shifting of workers into the ranks of the working poor to the tune of 10% membership nationwide.Unions and members tend to vote Dem in elections, and this is why the big money tries so hard to destroy unions.Big bucks are behind reep efforts at restrictive voter ID laws and cutting down early voting, shutting out many poor and minorities who also largely vote Dem.And for those who have been in the service, who were always told that part of their purpose was to protect our right to vote, reeps try to take away many voters’ right to do so., to rig election results. This, to me is a sin of the greatest magnitude.Forgot to mention that before the intro of 2 tier wage scales, the Teamsters had always insisted in contracts that new hires be paid at the same level as someone who had been there for 30 years, and with the same benefits, thus preventing dissension among workers. This was the very wedge that has created division among workers ever since and resentment over lack of comparable benefit (union vs. private) has worked so well in destroying public sector unions. Public outrage, and all that. Thanks once again for your great post.
…cooperation instead of competition….Love this. That’s it in a nutshell.Competition’s fine in sports, but not getting through life. This is why,to me, the greatest socialist of all time was Jesus, who advocated this same idea.Have always hated Socialism being turned into a dirty word.Webster’s Dictionary defines socialism:" a belief in a social order based upon co-operation of effort, and community of property".Jesus exactly, and also the reason he had to be done away with by the elite of his time. Can’t have anyone stirring people up with such notions as “community of property”..Also, truly love the teachings of Jesus and other teachers of spiritual beliefs who align with this belief.Socialism is down, but not quite out her, as evidenced at www.dsausa.org.Greatest pleasure to know you are out there with a respect for such beliefs.
I have wondered how dating must have been in the old days, ie in a buggy with your girl, snuggled, and a kiss just as the horse in front of you takes a dump. How romantic!
