Adding the third dimension is not necessarily the major problem. Consider the number of drivers who deliberately defy laws and safety rules. Now turn them loose in an atmosphere with no roadways, no traffic signs or traffic lights, etc. and expect them to obey aviation rules?
Actually, car drivers already drive in 3 dimensions: x,y,and time. Flying requires 4 dimensions, x,y,z, and time.
We’d quickly weed out the people who can’t drive in 4 dimensions. Darwin Awards would be very plentiful in the first 10 years. Unfortunately, the collateral damage would be high.
