    We can’t lose Sal. He’s one of the original cast. He’s been in the strip since the early days. And the strip needs a jerk.

    The last time I called customer service for a program, I basically got the following: “What did happen shouldn’t have happened. Therfore it didn’t happen. Please go away and bother someone else.”

    I know she’s popular with readers, but to me, Medusa would seem like the least interesting to write for, because she’s kind of like Pig-Pen- a one joke character. Of course she’s also the hardest to draw, with all those snakes.

    The office park pictures are ones that I took walking around a complex in my hometown. I guess I never went there in bad weather. I wish I’d beeb bold enough to go inside and take pictures looking out the windows, but I make due with what I have. This way you can wonder how big and complex the structure is, or if you’re seeing neighboring buildings out the windows.

    If my archives are complete, Sal’s first appearance was in the same strip as Roy’s first. Once in a while, though, John turns up one I didn’t have.

    Having worked on an IT Helpdesk I can probably tell some stories that … anyone else that has worked on an IT Helpdesk can tell.

    Wife of an ex-employee called. He was made redundant from another division because technology replaced him. She rang up just to shout and swear at someone for 15 minutes for having a job.

    Super-stressed man who, when I acknowledged his huge monitor had visible (and normal) artefacts, dragged me by my shirt collar to the door to beat me up outside. (I was rescued by a couple of his colleagues.)

    Being summoned by a senior manager to an emergency call-out only to be asked for IT career advice for her school-leaving son. When I said I had real work to do, she said she would put in a formal complaint for abusing her if I did not help. A right psycho-b!tch.

    Called out to fix a problem with a PC caused by the user just so he and his boyfriend could try to get a reaction out of me by loudly talking about a haemorrhoids operation in intimate detail. They kept saying “Are we bothering you?” and I kept saying things like “I am so sorry, I wasn’t listening” and “I’m busy” and finally “Sorry, I was wondering whether to report this as sabotage but that would get you in trouble for leaving your PC unlocked and unattended.”

    “Hi, it’s Paul.” “Paul who?” Angry: “Don’t you know? Grrr! I’m complaining about you for being so rude.” “We have over 1,000 users and I must have dealt with at least 20 called Paul. Why should I remember you?” Whereupon he went ballistic and put in a formal complaint about my attitude.

    I have a lot of sympathy for Sal.
