It was a running joke in our budget dept. that everyone hired couldn’t balance their checkbook – but they handled millions of dollars for the company (the joke was passed around BY the budget dept.)
Accounting has much more to do with knowing thousands of complex rules, codes, statutes, and regulations (especially so for tax accountants), than it does with math skill. Computers and calculators take care of the math.
It’s easy, multiply by 3, split in half, add a 0, there you are. For example, $20.00 meal. 20 × 3 = 60, divided by half = 30, add a 0, 3.00, 15% of a $20.00 meal.
@Jeff0811—-You are a cheap tipper. LOL. Todays tipping rates for good service is about 20% now. Much easier to just multiply the total by 2 — $20.00 X 2 = a $4.00 tip (after adjusting the decimal point).
An even easier way is to do 10% twice for 20%, or For 15% do 10% once & add half of another 10%. It is not really as difficult or complicated as it sounds. 10% of $20.00 is $2.00. 15% is the $2.00 & add half (5%) of $2.00 is ($1.00) = $3.00
I thought you were probably a generous type, & so the added LOL. I try to do a minimum of at least 20%, as I know they are poorly paid for the work they do.

It would seem that Melvin is a total failure at everything. And he is too clueless to even realize it.

A lot of good that’s done him… I’m surprised he even knows how to work a calculator.
