Any microwave I’ve ever owned would not pop all the corn in the popcorn setting. I’ve always had to add an extra minute and listen for the popping to stop.
A few years ago, our son bought us a microwave popcorn popper to use with regular popping corn. Works really well and is much cheaper than the bag kind. Also, we get to regulate exactly how much (and why kind) of butter and salt is in it.
I used to eat microwave popcorn occasionally until I saw a review that said the bag leaches chemicals into your diet. Was with air pop for a while until I got a deal on a pristine used Crocker oil version where the top is the bowl. Still, everything in moderation.
I never liked microwave popcorn. Maybe it was those chemicals syzygy47 mentioned that made it taste odd, plus it had way to much butter and salt for me. Had an air popper for a while, and loved it, until the motor died. Now I use a Whirley-pop on top of the stove.
I don’t need a microwave telling me how long I should cook popcorn. It depends on the size of the kernels, the moisture content and phase of the Moon. It’s a human’s job.

Sounds good. Hang on while I toss a bag in.

Burning popcorn in the break room microwave should be a firing offense 100% of the time. No warnings. Do it — get fired.
