If water is discolored, Zack, you should NOT drink it. Just ask the citizens of Queen Creek, Arizona some few weeks ago (my cousin was on the news about it).
Reminds me of the rusty (dark reddish-brown) water we “enjoyed” at Taegu Air Base in the late 1980s. Visiting troops were issued bottled water, but we in the “permanent party” were expected to drink the iron-enriched water since it fell within medically healthy parameters. That said, I imagine my dog wouldn’t have found it too objectionable.
