Well, he certainly won’t learn how to be a winner from Carl; middle age man living in a cheap boarding house, un/underemployed-likely has not had a real job since the Black+Decker assembly line closed 30 years ago. If he is lucky he is on SSDI and has shown no interest in gaining employable skills. Just another angry white man blaming immigrants and Chinese for his failure in life.
You guys are forgetting that these trophies are rarely given out past the first few years in a given sport. After that, you have to earn them. They’re just a tool to keep the younger kids interested by giving them some made-up award that piques their interest (“most improved”, etc.) By the time they’re in middle school, most kids have picked up on the fact that not everyone gets first place and you have to be good to get on the “A team”.
