Which is all the more reason to keep those stinky, filthy feet inside of footwear of some kind and not share that nastiness with your cohabitors! I have a collection of slippers for indoors, plus clogs by each door for those quick trips outdoors. The rest of my outside shoes live in the hall closet by the front door and seldom venture into the rest of the house.
Just clean your shoes? They make anti-bacterial and anti-fungus shoe spray that works even for expensive shoes and sneakers can go in the washing machine.
One of the biggest dichotomies throughout history is that peoples who wear shoes are never going to understand peoples who don’t wear shoes. (Yes, I do mean “peoples”.) It’s similar to the divide between people who drive SUVs and bicyclists. You HAVE to look at the world from a different perspective.
I have a friend who goes barefoot everywhere. Even to church. And we live in Phoenix. The bottoms of his feet must be about half an inch thick and numb.

Also, you DO NOT want bare feet on hot asphalt.

Best to keep your oozing infected cut-up feet leaving smeary tracks on the floor.
