I cannot buy shoes that fit because I have wider-than-average feet. Even 9E-width a full length-size larger won’t do. Wish I could go barefoot but it’s just not acceptable unless you are a cute woman in a movie. :)
Going shoeless is also a good way to catch a foot fungus. Some of which require expensive treatments.
I would have left him at home at the first mention and it would be within her rights to threaten eviction. Slippers are a necessity in a shared accommodation situation.
