Teddy Roosevelt probably didn’t Owens’ hand because he had been dead for 17 years.

To Unicornstar: 2 wrongs has never made right. Yes, Hitler snubbed Jesse Owens publicly, but that paled by what Jesse Owens faced at home — which was far more than a snub. However, Jesse Owens held his head up high and retained his dignity through it all.

You have to also remember the way the Olympics were run back then. These were not the “professional” athletes you see today with all the sponsors and government backing. Our Olympians up to recently were mostly self trained, paid everything themselves, had NO government backing for ANYTHING. To do so could get you banned from competing. Just for getting paid to run in some competition could get you banned from Olympic competition. An American runner was disallowed for the Olympics in the 60s because he received a fee for competing in some running competition. For FDR to get involved would have meant the US government was backing the athletes. The International Committee could have stripped the medals just because of that. It was okay for Hitler to do it and later the Soviet Union and East Germany but the real Olympics was to go beyond governments. Olympic Committees for years allowed other nations to violate those rules. Kickback and scandals still occur. Do you have any idea how much Olympic butt you have to kiss, gifts and perks needed to get an Olympic to your city. Check that out sometime.Hitler courted the Black America as he knew it would divide the nation so he could not be stopped. Publicly he was one way and privately he was another. Mr. Owens would never meet the standards Hitler had but believed his kind would make a good “servant” for the Aryan race.Hitler believed that about a lot of other nationalities and races.Hitler was upset because his so called “super humans” could not beat a black man. Specifically an American Black man.So much for Nazi superiority.

The Shutdown and the disregard for the millions that it hurt, only to try to get their own way? Yes actions do speak louder than words; my family has been republican since they first adopted the name – we will be no more…

If he’d run as a republican he wouldn’t get through the primaries. They flirted with Herman Cain but would never have nominated him no matter his policies.
