I used to live outside NYC. every evening going home on the commuter rail the same scraggly woman with dark hair a leopard print jacket and a circular scar on of cheek would come into the train cars with the same sob story that she’d lost her wallet and needed a few bucks just to get home. People openly jeered her telling her to work up a new act. the question was would any FNG not listen to the warnings and give her money and how many cars would she go to before the cops ran her off.
I saw an interview one time of one of those streetcorner beggars that hold up a cardboard sign and he came clean about why so many do it. He claimed that he made about $200 most days. He said so why should I work. Makes sense when u think about it.
