Wait til the last minute is not very wise. Best to get this stupid stuff done and over with as soon as possible.

Good idea Macush, but file early if you get money back. File last minute if you owe some. ☺

Does put a damper on President’s day Fish!

At least he’s got everything he needs together in a folder. As I see it, he’s got a huge jump already!

Some other person who works @home would know better than I, but would it even be possible for Adam to get a refund? As a free-lancer or sole proprietor, he doesn’t draw paychecks. No paychecks, no withholding. No withholding, no refund. Of course, he and Laura may file joint a joint return, and/or the forms at issue are not related to his business (might he even file those quarterly?). However, it’s still unlikely that Laura’s over-withholding would make up for whatever Adam owes.

It’s the cartoonist’s failure to provide these telling details that keeps comic strips from being taken seriously as an art form. He should have made the effort to have today’s strip vetted by a certified tax professional, so these questions wouldn’t arise. He should also provide a link to Adam’s earning statements, so readers can check them out if they choose…

    DAMN YOU, ROB HARRELL!!!

I never suggested he wouldn’t have to file, just that he wouldn’t get a refund. He bills for his time, and his clients pay him in full. They don’t withhold a portion for taxes. That’s my understanding, anyway.

Thanx, FishStix. I only knew a bit about quarterly taxes, but didn’t know they were estimates before the fact.

When you pay them instead of getting a refund, yep wait till the last minute.
