Laura: Are those our tax forms? Adam: Yeah. I've got everything in this folder. Laura: And you're taking them to an accountant? Adam: Oh, no. I'm using my foolproof system. Laura: The "Wait until the last minute" plan? Adam: Have you been reading my diary?

Wait til the last minute is not very wise. Best to get this stupid stuff done and over with as soon as possible.

Good idea Macush, but file early if you get money back. File last minute if you owe some. âș
Does put a damper on Presidentâs day Fish!

At least heâs got everything he needs together in a folder. As I see it, heâs got a huge jump already!
Some other person who works @home would know better than I, but would it even be possible for Adam to get a refund? As a free-lancer or sole proprietor, he doesnât draw paychecks. No paychecks, no withholding. No withholding, no refund. Of course, he and Laura may file joint a joint return, and/or the forms at issue are not related to his business (might he even file those quarterly?). However, itâs still unlikely that Lauraâs over-withholding would make up for whatever Adam owes.
Itâs the cartoonistâs failure to provide these telling details that keeps comic strips from being taken seriously as an art form. He should have made the effort to have todayâs strip vetted by a certified tax professional, so these questions wouldnât arise. He should also provide a link to Adamâs earning statements, so readers can check them out if they chooseâŠ
DAMN YOU, ROB HARRELL!!!

I never suggested he wouldnât have to file, just that he wouldnât get a refund. He bills for his time, and his clients pay him in full. They donât withhold a portion for taxes. Thatâs my understanding, anyway.

Thanx, FishStix. I only knew a bit about quarterly taxes, but didnât know they were estimates before the fact.

When you pay them instead of getting a refund, yep wait till the last minute.
