I had a teacher in grade 2 who didn’t shy away from using her ruler on one’s knuckles. I feared and loathed the woman. About five years ago, I mentioned her to a client at work; said client (a retired teacher who had been coming to us for three years or so) said she had taught with Ms Terrible, and thought she was a wonderful teacher. Turns out the client was my grade 5 teacher from the same school. Small world? Mind you, she didn’t alter my memory of fear and loathing in grade 2. Ew; I’ve just realized that I met the teacher 50 years ago next month…
