Laura: What's the name of the company publishing your book? Sgiasu. I believe the 'S' is silent.
Katy: Um...I looked online today. I can't find any mention of them.
Adam: They're probably just too big for the internet.
Laura: That's not a thing, honey.

I wonder what the scam is though? I can see this being a cruel practical joke by a friend or family member but a scam doesn’t compute. Scams, by their nature, enrich the con artist in some way.
By lying about being approved for publishing the money goes one way, from the publisher to the writer, not the other way around. Am I missing something?keltii over 8 years ago

If they aren’t on the internet, how did Adam know about them to send in his manuscript in the first place? And why send it to a publisher you know absolutely nothing about? Wouldn’t you be worried about copyright protection?

re:“If they aren’t on the internet, how did Adam know about them to send in his manuscript in the first place?” Maybe he didn’t? He just got the letter and didn’t question.

They may have paid to be in some kind of “publishing” directory. They may hit him up for money for promotion cost.
