When you say it tastes like something, the common assumption is that you regularly eat that something.

The first taste of coffee. First beer. First cigarette. Amazing that people (and I’m guilty) try these things a second time.

    Coffee, black.

When I was a kid, the bossman drank his coffee black; mine was “candied”. I thought one day I would get some coffee black just so I could make fun of the boss for drinking such nastiness. Forty-five years later I’m still drinking it black wondering why anyone would ruin good coffee with cream and sugar. Coffee, black, please.

My Aunt gave me coffee when I was in grade school. Well, she put some coffee in cream and sugar and called it coffee. I had it with turtle(shaped) pancakes and bacon. I ate and drank it while watching Captain Kangaroo. Good times, that.

This sounds so familiar – Hubby and me. He likes the way it smells, but doesn’t care for the taste, and that’s putting it mildly!

A coffee connoisseur could tell you what specific sub-species of coffee and where is was grown and what particulars about the dirt is is grown in. Katy would just tell you it tastes like dirt, which would be just as accurate. You can have your dried ground beans that may have been pooped out by one of several animals. I prefer my morning hot water poured over chopped leaves with maybe a bit of flavouring derived from a little citrus fruit. Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. Before JL Picard was on the bridge.
